Foreign news: PPI complaints keep pouring in, PayPal and MasterCard reach agreement on store payment
Complaints about mis-selling of payment protection insurance are still coming in at the rate of about 3500 a week, according to Britain's Financial Ombudsman. The ombudsman received 91,381 complaints in the first half of the year, compared with 92,667 in the same period last year. The Guardian reports that banks have already paid £37 billion in compensation and had been expecting complaint numbers to fall. Banks have been lobbying the Government to cap PPI claims by imposing a deadline for complaints. PayPal has done a deal with MasterCard that will allow payments in stores in the United States, CNBC reports. Consumers will be able to se their PayPal app as a digital wallet for contactless payments. PayPal made a similar deal with Visa in July.
