Foreign news: Visa Inc to acquire Visa Europe, Amazon exits the mPOS market
Visa Inc has reached an agreement to acquire Visa Europe, creating a single global company. Visa Inc will pay €16.5 billion upfront and an additional earn-out of €4.7 billion in four years. Visa Europe is an association owned by member banks and other payment service providers. Amazon is getting out of the mobile point of sale market, Finextra reports. The big e-commerce company has stopped accepting new customers for its Register service, which provides a payment app and a device that turns a mobile phone into a payment terminal. In a notice to customers, Amazon said the service would be shut off completely in February next year. Amazon launched Register last year, hoping to take on companies such as PayPal and Square.
