Foreign news: Wells Fargo's ratings outlook negative, uncertain future for UK ATM network
Standard & Poor's has revised its outlook for Wells Fargo from stable to negative, citing "increased business risks stemming from accelerated reputational issues," StreetInsider reports. The US bank has lost its chief executive over an unauthorised account opening scandal and S&P said it was concerned about the ramifications of ongoing legal and regulatory investigations into the affair. Wells Fargo has an A/A-1 issuer credit rating. Australia is not the only country where ATM use is in decline. The 30 members of the United Kingdom ATM network, Link, are in discussions about the future of the service, which is operating at a loss and has a fleet of outdated machines, the Guardian reports. Consumer groups fear there will be a big cut in the number of machines at a time when they say more ATMs are needed to fill gaps left by branch closures.
