Fraud risk radiant for slowpoke Westpac
Banks "need to be very careful" around privacy, cyber and fraud risks, Brian Hartzer, CEO of Westpac told the House economics committee yesterday."There are very real fraud and cyber risks that are operating out there,' Hartzer said, in the crescendo to an anecdote from a 90-minute phone chat with his 95 year old mum, a recent victim, whose private details were compromised."We need to be very careful about this."Pivoting with the committee to allied open data and card themes, Hartzer looked back."When I arrived in the credit card industry in Australia 20 years ago there was vehement opposition to sharing data," he said."But the banks at that time wanted to do it.""This genie is very hard to put back in the bottle should this get out," Hartzer added.
