FSU v CBA goes before the FWC
The Finance Sector Union and Commonwealth Bank faced off before the Fair Work Commission in Sydney yesterday over the union's criticisms of the way the bank is handling its restructuring program. Not much emerged from the private session, although one source said the discussions were ongoing and another said the bank was expected to provide a statement to staff by the end of this week.CBA said in a statement that prior to today's discussions, chief executive Matt Comyn had arranged a meeting with FSU national secretary Julia Angrisano. The meeting is expected to take place next week. The union is concerned that Comyn has made reference to CBA becoming a "streamlined" bank and talking about a "transformation to become a simpler bank" without any consultation with staff or the union. It said in a statement: "It is inconceivable that such changes won't impact you in some way - be it job losses, the need to be retrained or the loss of promotion opportunities."The FSU has lodged a dispute with the Fair Work Commission to ensure CBA complies with its obligations to discuss this change with CBA workers."
