Google prepares payments push
Google Australia is considering a plan to take on payments giants such as Visa, Mastercard and BPay in the online payments market, the Herald Sun reported. Google secured a financial services licence from ASIC.The licence may enable the group to facilitate digital or online transactions, though an additional licence from APRA may also be required.A Google Australia spokesman confirmed to the newspaper that the company was working on options to roll out an internet payments platform in Australia but said it was a matter of doing the homework and that no decision has been taken.
