Greens give amber light to ABIP
The proposed funding assistance to commercial property developers may win Senate approval if the Australian government accepts Green proposals to increase the level of government appointments on the board and caps executive pay.The Senate's economics committee produced the usual partisan reports from an inquiry into the bill setting up the Australian Business Investment Partnership. The Green's position seems most consistent with the prospect of any group of senators siding with the Labor government and passing the bill. The independent senator, Nick Xenophon, noted a lack of evidence of withdrawals of foreign banks before the committee, a fair point given this is the ill ABIP is meant to cure.
