Hisco drives ANZ off track

18 June 2019 10:19AM
ANZ yesterday confirmed the appointment of Antonia Watson as acting CEO of ANZ New Zealand, against embarrassing revelations of "certain transactions following an internal review of personal expenses," of former CEO, David Hisco."Board concern about the characterisation of certain transactions," was the careful language of the media release, elaborated in media briefings by Watson and the ANZ NZ chair John Key.Key told Radio New Zealand Hisco believed he had authority to spend large amounts on chauffeured cars but has left the bank because of a "lack of transparency" in recording his expenses.RNZ reported it was discovered he had spent tens of thousands of dollars on chauffeured-driven cars for personal use and on storing his wine in Australia.Key said an internal review of executive's expenses was launched in May, but Hisco had taken "genuine" leave for health reasons last month.
