Industry toes the line on investor lending cap
All large banks with material investor loan portfolios have committed to operate at or below APRA's ten per cent growth benchmark in the period ahead, the banking regulator said in its 2015 annual report."There has been a moderation in the previous strong upward trajectory," it said."At the end of 2014/15, the growth in investor lending remained marginally above the ten per cent benchmark."
Putting some context on these limits, APRA said: "Assuming ADIs broadly meet their plans and investor lending continues to grow at around ten per cent, this type of lending will still be the fastest growing of the major classes of credit for the foreseeable future, and will be growing at, in broad terms, around twice the rate of nominal GDP."
