Internal cloud the limit of ANZ plans
ANZ will stick to an internal model for cloud computing in the medium term, and in part because financial regulators often do not like the use of external providers to store sensitive bank data.Anne Weatherston, chief information officer at ANZ, said at Friday's technology briefing: "I think cloud for banks is always difficult because the regulators are not comfortable with cloud, and in fact, MAS in Singapore in recent weeks have really come back quite hard on any form of outsourcing, and cloud. "In cloud, we will pursue virtualisation and private cloud, but we will be monitoring the external cloud situation. "I've actually dabbled a little bit in the external cloud in our insurance business, where we use the CRN solution from Salesforce, but when we've explored the possibility of using that on a more wider basis, regulators are nervous about it. "So I think cloud's very interesting, we've got to watch it."A significant number of CIOs are calling out, that they will be in the cloud by 2015, but at the moment, there are regulatory constraints."
