Jetstar enters travel card market, while Access Prepaid upgrades
With Australians holidaying overseas in record numbers, travel money has become a competitive retail banking segment. The level of competition has intensified in recent days, with new card launches by Jetstar and Access Prepaid.Access Prepaid, a division of MasterCard, yesterday launched the Multi-Currency Cash Passport, which offers up to seven currencies on one card.A "smart wallet" facility allows the card to draw on funds in another currency to complete a transaction if there are insufficient funds in the chosen currency.Another selling point is that the card has no international ATM or point-of-sale transaction fees.The card is available from Flight Centre, Harvey World Travel, Jetset Travel, Travelworld, Travelscene, STA Travel and Bank of Queensland.Jetstar's new Travel Card, which was launched last Friday, is issued by Macquarie Bank. It offers nine currencies.The initial load fee is $15 and reload is one per cent of the loan amount. Transfers between currencies are free. ATM withdrawal and balance inquiry fees apply. The card is valid for three years.Jetstar is handling distribution by online application. Loads and reloads are done using Bpay.
