Kaching debut delayed
Three weeks ago Commonwealth Bank engineered the most favourable publicity for a banking product in many years, with the launch of its Kaching smartphone payments application. The bank received an avalanche of coverage in the popular media, as well as on social media channels. But the bank has moved no product on the back of this public relations effort. Kaching was not available to download on 25 October, when it was first announced, and the application remains unavailable 24 days later. It still is not listed in Apple's App Store - the first smartphone platform product for which the bank developed the app.CBA did not respond to inquiries about when Kaching would be available, or when the required smartphone cases would be available. The cases are needed to enable the contactless payments component of the app.
