Kelly brings one of the old team on board
Westpac chief executive Gail Kelly has made her first group executive appointment and there are no prizes for guessing that the recruit comes from her old stamping ground, St George Bank.Westpac announced yesterday that Peter Clare, former group executive technology and operations at St George, would take up the role of group executive consumer financial services. The senior position at consumer financial services, which is Westpac's biggest division, has been vacant since Mike Pratt left the bank in December.Clare had been at St George for six years and at Commonwealth Bank before that. At the CBA his work included the integration of Colonial Ltd. He went to St George in 2002 to head group strategy and then took over technology and operations in June last year, following the retirement of long-serving chief information officer John Loebenstein. His brief as head of technology and operations was to make sure the bank's technology development was directed at meeting customer needs. His role at Westpac will be similar. In a statement issued yesterday Kelly said: "Peter… will have a key role in driving customer service across Westpac's consumer business. "He will bring both innovation and transformation to this important part of the business."Clare left St George in November, a week after Paul Fegan was appointed chief executive.
