Loan sizes up, LVRs down
The size of the average home loan has increased by almost 10 per cent over the past year. Loans written by the mortgage aggregator AFG have increased from an average of $395,000 in February last year to their current level of $430,000.In New South Wales, AFG brokers wrote loans with an average size of $518,000 last month.In Western Australia the average loan was $430,000, in Victoria it was $419,000, in the Northern Territory it was $378,000, in Queensland it was $358,000 and in South Australia it was $334,000.The average loan-to-valuation ratio ranged between 62.3 per cent in the Northern Territory and 72 per cent in Victoria. In NSW the average LVR was 65.6 per cent - down from 67.3 per cent in February last year. LVRs were down in most states.
