Margin loan balances fall further
The margin loan market is stuck in the doldrums, with loan balances and account numbers continuing to decline despite strong equity market conditions.According to Reserve Bank figures released yesterday, total margin loan balances fell from A$12.04 billion in the June quarter to $11.8 billion in the September quarter.Margin loan balances are now at their lowest level since September 2003 and are 71.5 per cent below their peak in December 2007.The number of client accounts fell from 176,000 in the June quarter to 170,000 in September.
