McEwan leaves CBA
Commonwealth Bank's head of retail banking services, Ross McEwan, is leaving the bank to take up the role of chief executive of UK retail at the Royal Bank of Scotland. McEwan will move to London.McEwan, who was at CBA for nine years, was a candidate for the chief executive position at CBA but missed out to Ian Narev, who took over in December.Narev said in a statement yesterday that the bank would undertake a global search for a replacement. The bank also confirmed that staff at its Melbourne mortgage services' centre would be made redundant. Around 300 people will be affected, with 100 being made redundant and the others moved to different roles. The redundancies are a response to weak conditions in the mortgage market.
