Merchant compo pledged by NAB
National Australia Bank is undertaking to compensate customers who suffered financial losses during a Saturday outage that affected mobile banking, ATMs and eftpos services."If there was a loss that was driven by the outage today then compensation will be provided to customers," Cindy Batchelor, NAB executive general manager for business said on Saturday. "We'll work with each and every one of them to understand exactly what happened to that particular customer."The Financial Review reports that the bank's strife arose just before 8am on Saturday and persisted until 2:30pm.The outage was caused by a failure in its back-up power equipment in a Melbourne data centre, which caused its mainframe technology and other systems to shut down, cutting off services to its customers. The outage also affected BNZ customers in New Zealand, with ATMs and eftpos services down there as well.Batchelor told the Financial Review NAB would compensate business customers for 100 per cent of losses incurred.
