Mortimer rules Post out of banking
Australia Post will not follow in the footsteps of Post Offices in Japan and New Zealand by expanding into banking, David Mortimer, chair of the board of Australia Post, told The Australian."We are completely unskilled in the area of banking," he said. "We do have some financial services capability, but we are not a banker."I would be shocked if the government ever gave us permission to become a bank for the very simple reason that it involves the government balance sheet and that is not our business."Mortimer said Australia Post, which began marketing car insurance late last year, planned to expand into other financial services, including superannuation.
