Norris calm over shaky debt market
Commonwealth Bank yesterday refreshed its claim that it could stand aside from offshore funding markets for a few months if needed, even if this is unlikely.Ralph Norris, CEO of CBA, told a briefing yesterday that "we can last several months - we wouldn't have to do any funding this year."The bank made similar claims at its annual results announcement, in August, and other major banks have said similar, though they continue to sell debt selectively in offshore markets, albeit in modest volumes.
