NPA and RBA considered Securency bribe claims in 2007
The board of Note Printing Australia considered allegations of bribery of foreign officials in 2007, The Age reports. This appears to be two years earlier than previously acknowledged by the boards of NPA and the Reserve Bank of Australia, which owns the NPA.The Age first reported on the alleged payment of bribes by Securency, a company half owned by NPA, in May 2009. The RBA has said since it first became aware of the allegations at that time. The Age reports that the allegations received in 2007 were referred by the NPA board to the chief internal auditor of the RBA and to the bank's internal audit committee of its board. The RBA sought advice from law firm Freehills, which concluded there was no breach of Australian law, according to an RBA statement provided to The Age yesterday.
