NZ ATM dream nears
Customers Limited told its annual meeting that it believed there was scope for around 2200 more ATMs in the New Zealand market and that the firm was aiming to install at least 500 of them. The proliferation of ATMs in pubs, service stations and many other retail outlets, common in Australia, is relatively rare in New Zealand, where cash out at the point of sale is the more common practice. However, a number of firms have been seeking to fill what they see as a void. One barrier is finalising bilateral agreements with the main New Zealand banks.Tim Wildash, managing director of Customers, told the annual meeting that five of seven banks with significant numbers of customers have signed on. ANZ National and ASB are the two yet to agree.
