Offshoring shelved by ANZ
ANZ said yesterday that it will consolidate its two Melbourne contact centres into a single site in South Melbourne. The bank plans to close its Mulgrave centre late next year.It said it expected no job losses as a result of the change. The Finance Sector Union has portrayed the decision as a win for its activism, with the offshoring of close to 600 jobs, mainly to the Philippines, being averted.ANZ said its site in Mulgrave was "developed in the early 80s, and without a significant renovation has reached its end of life." We also want to "consolidate our Melbourne-based call centre and locate it at one site," the bank said.In the middle of the year, the FSU had predicted the loss of many jobs at the South Melbourne site, as well as at Mulgrave.
