Oil executive joins Westpac board
Ann Pickard, the country head of Shell in Australia will join the board of Westpac from December, the bank announced yesterday.Pickard, 55, manages Shell's exploration, production and gas commercialisation activities in Australia (or the "upstream" operations) according to the Shell website.Pickard, a US citizen, moved to Australia in early 2010 after five years managing Shell's sub-Saharan business in Africa and based in LagosPickard's period of work in Nigeria is partly documented, with uncertain reliability, in US embassy cables available from Wikileaks. The chief controversy arising from these cables is the assertion that Shell had operatives placed widely through government departments, and most crucially working in the oil ministry.
