OzForex and Travelex team up

19 April 2013 4:14PM
Foreign exchange provider OzForex has won a contract to build an online international payments platform for Travelex. After a successful implementation in the United Kingdom, the service is being launched in Australia. The Travelex contract is OzForex's third white label deal. It provides similar services to Macquarie Private Wealth and ING Direct. OzForex also operates under its own name.Macquarie and ING Direct use the OzForex platform to provide international payment and money transfer services for retail and business customers. The Travelex service will be retail only.OzForex's head of currency and payments, Jim Vrondas, said the company was not in the remittance end of the business. "These payments are account-to-account and, typically, involve thousands of dollars," he said."In the past, people went to their bank for this service, but now they shop around for a better service or a better rate. Globally, we are getting 10,000 inquiries a month. "This market is about offering dedicated dealers a 24-hour service, as well as risk management tools."OzForex's head of Asia-Pacific, Simon Griffin, said the focus of the company's strategy was on white label and other third party deals, such as software as a service.Griffin said: "The Australian dollar has been a strong performer. There is a lot more import activity and more expats repatriating money back home. "There is more interest from financial institutions looking to get into the business."
