Payment provider to the 'faith sector' lists on the ASX

12 October 2016 5:24PM
New Zealand payment gateway provider Pushpay lists on the Australian Securities Exchange today (Wednesday, October 12), offering investors access to an unusual business model. The company runs a payment service operating on iOS and Android devices that provides a simple and fast way of making payments to designated recipients. What makes it unusual is that it does most of its business in the "faith sector" in the United States. The company claims a one per cent share of its target market, including four of the top ten churches in the US. One of its products is called echurch Apps, which allows churches to customise their own branded apps, and another is Envelope Giving, which digitises traditional envelope-based church donations. Its payment services "address the problem that donors don't give due to friction and various complexities."It claims to have "revolutionised the way many US ministries operate."Over the past couple of years it has been expanding into the wider not-for-profit sector.Pushpay was started in 2011 and is also listed on the NZX Main Board. Its co-founder and chief executive is Chris Heaslip. He was previously a tax management professional and business adviser at KPMG. His base is Seattle, Washington State. The company is still in its development phase. It reported revenue of NZ$14.9 million for the year to March and a loss of NZ$19.4 million.
