PayPal volume soars
Dollar volume processed by PayPal in Australia on mobile devices exceeded A$2 billion in 2013, Adrian Christie, head of communications, said yesterday. Christie said this was up from only $35 million in 2010.Paypal's total dollar volume for payments processed remains undisclosed.Paypal Australia's director of enterprise, Simon Banks, said the firm had 5.5 million active users in Australia."We've seen explosive growth in mobile. We see mobile as a business in its own right."Christie said that in recent months PayPal had stopped supplying its triangle-shaped dongle to tradies and other small business to help accept mobile payments. Small business owners can instead process payments using the smartphone app alone.
