Rates decisions due today
Those banks that have put off working out their future interest rates will mostly decide this morning, as Friday is still very much the day for the weekly rate review. On Tuesday, the Reserve Bank of Australia pushed the cash rate up by 25 basis points and CBA whipped up a storm with a variable rate rise of 45 basis points the same day. After a quiet Wednesday, publicised increases in home loan interest rates yesterday were also scarce.ME Bank lifted its variable rate by 25 basis points, and judging by the lack of public relations, trade and other media reports, and the paucity of talk on social networks, other lenders really have put off their decisions.A few five and 10 basis points improvements in margins might slip through.Lenders taking this path will want to publicise the decision early, lest a late Friday announcement fester as more evidence of the devious traits of bankers.
