RBA board loses autonomy over executive pay
The Remuneration Tribunal will takeover the setting of pay levels for senior staff of the Reserve Bank of Australia, Bloomberg reports. The board of the RBA has responsibility for setting terms and conditions of its executives at present, but the tribunal - which sets pay rates for judges, politicians and and other senior public servants - will take on the task. The policy decision by the Government appears in response to a minor controversy earlier this year following a rise in the pay packet of the RBA governor, Glenn Stevens. The RBA board supposedly neglected to advise the Treasurer of the new pay rate.
