RBA executives may have known of corruption
At least one senior official at the Reserve Bank knew of allegations that RBA subsidiary companies were involved in corruption prior to the allegations being made public, according to a report on ABC's 7.30 program last night.Eight former executives of two companies owned by the Reserve Bank, Securency and Note Printing Australia, are facing allegations that they paid bribes to win banknote printing contracts overseas. The RBA's position is that it was in the dark about corruption in the companies before the bribery allegation was made public in 2009.However, the program has claimed that a memo it obtained shows that a senior RBA executive met with a whistleblower to discuss the issue in 2007.
