RBNZ creates Banking Forum
The Reserve Bank of New Zealand has announced the creation of a Banking Forum to coordinate the work of Government agencies regulating banks.Head of Financial Supervision Toby Fiennes said in a statement that the Banking Forum would be made up of officials from the Reserve Bank, The Treasury, the Financial Markets Authority and the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment, with officials from the Ministry of Justice and the Inland Revenue Department sitting as associate members. The Banking Forum would meet quarterly to discuss regulatory initiatives and find areas for cooperation and coordination, Fiennes said. It would also look more broadly at financial intermediation. "Meetings of the forum allow each agency to be aware of regulatory initiatives from other agencies, and potentially move or reorder work that may not be time-dependent," he said.Other regulatory agencies, public authorities, interest groups or private entities would be invited to participate from time to time, Fiennes said. Here are the terms of reference.
