Regional banks have more advocates than the big four

Bendigo Bank customers are the most inclined to recommend their bank to friends and colleagues, a Roy Morgan Research survey has found.Roy Morgan set out to identify what it calls "high advocates" in the retail banking market. Almost two-thirds (63.2 per cent) of Bendigo Bank's customers fitted the category.Roy Morgan industry communications director Norman Morris said more customers of smaller banks recommended their bank than big bank customers.Among the other banks in the survey, 55.7 per cent of Suncorp Bank's customers were high advocates, 53.9 per cent of St George Bank's and 52.4 per cent of Bankwest's.Commonwealth Bank was the major bank with the highest proportion of high advocates; 52.6 per cent of its customers would recommend it.NAB's high advocacy rating was 48.4 per cent, ANZs was 45.6 per cent and Westpac's was 45.5 per cent.Morris said that advocacy rates were higher among customers who considered their bank as their main financial institution. In Bendigo Bank's case, the MFI high advocacy rating was 64.2 per cent.
