Rewards programs poor value
Consumers are dissatisfied with the value they get from credit card rewards programs, a new survey reveals.Comparison site Mozo found that the majority of rewards card users believe their rewards programs deliver "poor value", with two out of three saying the annual fee on their rewards card was too high and 70 per cent saying it took too long to earn anything worthwhile.Forty per cent said they did not redeem any points in the previous year and 11 per cent said they had never redeemed any points.Mozo said the average interest rate of a rewards card was 19.7 per cent, compared with an average rate of 14.4 per cent on non-rewards cards.The most popular reward category is gift cards, with 54 per cent saying they have redeemed points for gift cards.Only 20 per cent said they had redeemed flights and ten per cent said they had paid with points at a partner merchant.Despite the high level of dissatisfaction, 44 per cent said they had a rewards card.
