Royal Commission takes AMP scalp
The revelations emerging from the ongoing Royal Commission into banking misconduct have proved too much for AMP to ride out, and this morning CEO Craig Meller announced he would be resigning immediately.AMP said this was one of a number of changes it would make "to accelerate the necessary change within the organisation following the misconduct and failures in regulatory disclosures in the advice business". The Royal Commission has heard evidence that AMP misled regulators over its charging of customers for advice they did not receive. "I am personally devastated by the issues which have been raised publicly this week, particularly by the impact they have had on our customers, employees, planners and shareholders." Meller said in a statement this morning. "This is not the AMP I know and these are not the actions our customers should expect from the company."Mike Wilkins, a non-executive director of the AMP Limited board and former CEO of IAG, has been appointed acting CEO. AMP said it would also undertake an immediate comprehensive review of its regulatory reporting and governance processes. This will be headed up by a retired judge or similar independent expert.
