Securency committal underway
The committal hearing on bribery and related charges of eight people associated with banknote manufacturer Securency kicked off in the Melbourne Magistrates Court yesterday.The charges arises from matter bought to public notice by The Age newspaper in May 2009Those charged are: Myles Curtis, the former chief executive of Securency; Clifford Gerathy, a sales executive; Mitchell Anderson, John Leckenby, Peter Hutchinson, Christian Boillot, Barry Brady and Rognvald Marchant.Fairfax Media reported all eight are charged with conspiring to provide a benefit to a foreign public official in order to obtain or retain business.Gerathy and Curtis are also charged with dishonestly making a false debit note.Securency is a maker of polymer substrate for plastic banknotes. Note Printing Australia, a subsidiary of the Reserve Bank of Australia, owns 50 per cent of Securency. The RBA has this stake on the market.
