SecurePay to be the default payment gateway for AP's digital mailbox
Australia Post will use its e-commerce payment service, SecurePay, as the default payment gateway for all "card not present" transactions made through its new digital mailbox. All consumer payments of bills received via the digital mailbox will be collected via SecurePay and remitted through the payment service.Australia Post launched Australia Post Digital Mailbox (APDM) yesterday, as part of a A$2 billion investment in digitising its network. The digital mailbox, which will be free for consumers, is a secure communications platform through which people can receive electronic mail from banks, government agencies, telecommunications and utility companies.Companies that have signed up to send mail through the service include ANZ, Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, National Australia Bank, Westpac, Link Market Services, Telstra and AMP.The Australian Taxation Office and the Department of Human Services announced that they would "explore opportunities" to use the service.Consumers will be able to use the service to make payments. Australia Post's general manager of external affairs, Jane McMillan, said Australia Post would not mandate payment options.McMillan said: "Typically, a consumer would perform a Bpay payment via their bank in response to a bill that may have been presented via APDM. So, they would click through to their bank's website via the APDM."Once at a bank's website, any payment method via that bank can be… [chosen]."However, she added, SecurePay was part of an integrated offer and would not be optional for providers.
