Shorter list of RBS branch bidders
Virgin Money and perhaps BBVA are out of the running for 318 branches of Royal Bank of Scotland that RBS is selling to satisfy regulators in Europe.The Financial Times on Friday reported that RBS cut Virgin Money from the shortlist on Friday, a report confirmed by other British media over the weekend.The Daily Mail on Saturday reported that the shortlist was down to two: National Australia Bank and Santander. NAB trades through Clydesdale Bank in Britain and also operates the Yorkshire Bank brand.The Daily Mail reported that "bidding for the branches is thought to have exceeded £2bn, an amount more than Virgin Money was willing to pay."
