Six banks working on living wills
Six banks must prepare draft plans for "recovery and resolution", also known as "living wills", by December, the Financial Review reports.Ths six banks asked to prepare the drafts by APRA are ANZ, Commonwealth, Macquarie, National, Suncorp and Westpac.Plans of this type are one response of financial regulators to the financial crisis of 2008.In theory such a plan will amount to a guide that the bank and the regulator could credibly follow in the event of a liquidity or solvency crisis affecting the firm, and provide an alternative to the (rather more likely scenarios) of a rapid merger with another bank or a government bail-out.
