Smartpay returns to profitability
New Zealand point-of-sale payment system provider Smartpay has released its first financial report since listing on the Australian Securities Exchange in September. The company reported strong growth in revenue and a return to profitability after making a loss in the previous corresponding period.Smartpay is the largest provider of point-of-sale terminals in New Zealand, with more than 30,000 terminals installed, and is hoping to build its business in Australia.Revenue for the six months to September was NZ$11.3 million - up 51 per cent on the previous corresponding period. New Zealand revenue was NZ$9.6 million and Australian revenue was NZ$1.7 million.Net profit was $884,000, a turnaround from a loss of $2.4 million in the previous corresponding period.The company said it has had strong growth in merchant terminal sales in Australia this year.
