SMEs positive about the outlook but not keen to borrow
A third of businesses plan to increase their capital expenditure over the next six months, a Commonwealth Bank survey has revealed.According to the bank's SME Confidence Report, 39 per cent of businesses expect business conditions to improve in the next six months and 50 per cent expect them to stay the same.While the outlook is positive, business owners remain cautious. Fifty-one percent said cost management rather than growth was their focus. Access to funding was not a big issue for businesses, suggesting that low growth in business lending will continue. Businesses, like consumers, are living within their means.
