St George's IT support jobs stay in-house
25 May 2012 5:05PM
Westpac yesterday confirmed that it had decided against tentative plans to outsource around 200 technology jobs to IBM from the bank's St George division in Sydney. The Finance Sector Union publicised the bank's decision yesterday.A bank spokesperson confirmed yesterday that the bank had decided "not to make any changes" after a "review… looked at different options."The jobs are in what the bank describes as the "IT infrastructure team".IBM undertakes corresponding work for Westpac's main division under a long-term contract.Westpac has stepped up the outsourcing of work over the last year or so, with the majority of work being transferred to suppliers in India. While the rationale for the bank's decision on the St George "tasks under review" list isn't clear - though the union's activity is one factor - the bank may have enough recently outsourced work to supervise for the moment.
