Start-up lender FundX gets a capital injection
Peer-to-peer lending startup FundX has received an injection of funds from Collaborate Corporation.Collaborate is an ASX-listed company operating in the "shared economy" market. Its businesses include DriveMyCar and MyCaravan, which provide a service for owners of cars and caravans wishing to rent them out.It has made an initial investment of A$150,000 in FundX for an 8.3 per cent shareholding, making it the biggest shareholder apart from the founders.Collaborate chief executive Chris Noone will join the FundX board.FundX is a specialist invoice discounter, offering finance based on the value of outstanding invoices. Its platform connects investors with SMEs.Funding decisions are based on an evaluation of real-time trading information fed through accounting services such as Xero and MYOB.The company has made some loans, although it is still in the start-up phase.FundX will be able to use Collaborate's online identity verification service PeerPass.Noone said he saw a lot of opportunity in the P2P business lending market."SMEs have problems with their banks and there is an opportunity for disruption," he said.
