Stronger demand for business credit
Business credit demand grew more strongly in the June quarter, according to the latest Veda Business Credit Demand Index. Credit applications in the quarter were up 5.5 per cent on the previous corresponding period.Demand has picked up since the March quarter, when year-on-year growth was 2.2 per cent, and since the December quarter, when growth was up 3.7 per cent.Applications for business loans were up 9.9 per cent, applications for asset finance were up 5.8 per cent and applications for trade credit were up 1.1 per cent.Veda said in a statement that growth was strongest in the non-mining states. Victoria, Tasmania and New South Wales were the states with the biggest increases.
