Suncorp Bank downgraded by Fitch
Fitch Ratings cut the long-term credit rating for Suncorp Metway to A from A+ on Friday. And it cut the rating on Suncorp's subordinated debt to A- from A.Fitch left the credit ratings of Suncorp's insurance entities unchanged at A+. The rating for Suncorp Group (the holding company) also remains unchanged at A.The ratings agency put the credit rating of Suncorp's banking business under review in November 2009. Since then Suncorp has laboured to achieve goals aimed at revitalising its core banking business and running down the assets in the non-core bank, where the loan are predominantly in commercial property.Fitch pointed to Suncorp's level of problem loans, of 4.93 per cent, and noted that "resolution of problem loans may be a protracted process during which risks to asset quality remain on the downside."
