Top six banks headline round 7 hearings

The CEO of Bendigo and Adelaide Bank, Marnie Baker, joins the already anticipated cast of characters scheduled to appear at the seventh round of public hearings of the financial services royal commission later this month.

CEOs from AMP, ANZ, CBA, NAB and Westpac as well as Macquarie will at last take their turn in the witness box and face the commissioner, Kenneth Hayne, as he uses the hearings to delve into "causes of misconduct and conduct falling below community standards and expectations by financial services entities (including culture, governance, remuneration and risk management practices), and on possible responses, including regulatory reform."

The hearings will also consider the role of ASIC and APRA in supervising the actions of financial services entities, deterring misconduct by those entities, and taking action when misconduct may have occurred.

The hearings kick off in Sydney at the Lionel Bowen Building, for one week from Monday 19 November and will then return to Melbourne at the Commonwealth Law Courts from Monday 26 November to Friday 30 November.

So far few of the banks and regulators listed have received a formal request to participate in the round seven hearings, so the business of writing witness statements will have to be crammed into the next week or so.
