Unsolicited offers for credit increases common

A report published by The Australia Institute and using survey research found that two in three respondents received unsolicited offers for a new credit card in the past year, according to an article on the report in The Age.

Half of respondents reported an unsolicited offer to lift their card limit and one in five had an offer to increase the available credit on their home loan.

One third of low-income respondents received an unsolicited offer for a personal loan.

It is not clear which polling company undertook the survey for the institute.

The Australia Institute called for a break-up of major banks, separating banking services from investment banking and wealth management.

The institute also called for a "super profits" tax on banks.

The Australia Institute is holding a conference on banking policy in Sydney today.
