Van Der Wielen heads wealth at ANZ
John Van Der Wielen, the former head of insurer and wealth management business St Andrews, has been appointed managing director wealth at ANZ and will drive the growth of the now wholly owned ING Australia.Van Der Wielen will replace Harry Stout, who will return to the United States after a brief tenure at ING.Commonwealth Bank recently sold St Andrews to Bank of Queensland, having assumed ownership during the takeover of BankWest.Van Der Wielen will be a member of the bank's Australian senior management team and will report to Australian chief executive Phil Chronican.ANZ bought out its joint venture partner and took full control of ING Australia last year. Among the big four banks it has been considered underweight in wealth management and wants to grow "more aggressively" in that market.St Andrews was part of HBOS and was part of the sale of BankWest to Commonwealth Bank. It has since been sold to Bank of Queensland. Van Der Wielen has 25 years experience in the industry.
