Velocity and Visa launch travel money card
Virgin Australia has followed Qantas into the pre-paid travel card market. Velocity Frequent Flyer, its loyalty program, will issue a travel money card linked to its membership card.Velocity Frequent Flyer announced yesterday that it is working with Visa on the product, which is called Global Wallet. It will operate as a multi-currency pre-paid travel card, offering frequent flyer points for purchases.It will also operate as a Velocity membership card, providing access to airport lounges, check-in services and other priority services.Earlier this year, Qantas announced that it had joined forces with MasterCard and Heritage Bank to launch a pr-paid travel card with a reward program. The new card, Qantas Cash, which is due to be launched in September, will hold up to nine different currencies. It will be issued to members of the Qantas Frequent Flyer program.Like the Velocity card, it will have the usual functions of a pre-paid travel card, as well as offering rewards and QFF member services, such as airport check-in and priority boarding.
