Visa upgrades Checkout
Visa has upgraded its Visa Checkout service, adding a "digital swipe" facility allowing consumers to complete an online purchase by swiping an image of their payment card across the screen of a smartphone, tablet or computer.Visa Checkout allows consumers to store their payment and address details with Visa, so they don't have to re-enter the details when shopping online. Payments can be completed without being redirected from the merchant's site.With the new facility, a consumer sees a picture of their card on the Checkout button, swipes it and enters their password to complete the transaction.They can link any payment card (not just Visa cards) for use with the service.Visa claims a higher conversion rate for consumers enrolled with Visa Checkout than for consumers using PayPal.The company claims it have 11 million Checkout users worldwide. It has about 20 Australian merchants offering the service.
