Weekend payments a hit in UK 30 March 2015 4:38PM Ian Rogers Demand for faster weekend payments is driving demand for the UK mobile payments service Paym.Close to half of all Paym payments are sent on Friday, Saturday or Sunday, data released last week and reported by the service's supplier, Vocalink, shows.Nearly two million people have registered with their participating UK bank to receive payments into their bank account using just their mobile number.More than £26million has been sent using Paym, a simpler way to pay using just a mobile number, since its launch in April 2014, Vocalink said.The research found that 85 per cent of people who have used Paym would recommend it to others.Data from November 2014 shows 49 per cent of Paym payments were made on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, with the hours from 6 pm to 9 pm the most popular time for using the service.Vocalink said Paym was most commonly used to pay back a close friend (21 per cent), followed by a partner (19 per cent), parents (19 per cent), or child (13 per cent).
