Westpac yesterday advised staff of a decision by bank management to freeze the base pay for staff earning $100,000 or more until the end of the bank's 2010 financial year, the Financial Review reported. The decision affects Australian-based staff working for Westpac directly or BT Financial. For staff working for St George, Bank of South Australia or Asgard, the pay freeze applies to those earning $109,000 or more.Australian-based staff earning less than $100,000 will be eligible for a review of their pay but this may be dependent on meeting performance targets.Commonwealth Bank instigated a unilateral pay freeze for staff earning more than $100,000 last month but offered staff on lower rates of pay an increase of 1.5 per cent. ANZ has frozen pay for senior staff but is likely to agree to pay rises for most staff.
